Step-by-Step Application Process
- Register on Passport Seva Portal — Visit passportindia.gov.in and create a new account using your email address.
- Fill the Online Application Form — Log in and fill Form DS-1 (fresh passport) or Form DS-3 (reissue). Enter personal details, address, and family information carefully.
- Pay the Fee Online — Pay using net banking, debit/credit card, or UPI. Save the payment receipt.
- Book an Appointment — Choose your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) and pick a date and time slot.
- Visit the Passport Office — Carry all original documents + self-attested photocopies. Your photo and biometrics will be captured at the center.
- Police Verification — For most fresh applications, local police will visit your address for verification (this step may be skipped for Aadhaar-linked applications).
- Passport Delivery — Your passport is dispatched via Speed Post to your registered address after verification is complete.
Processing Time
- Normal application: 30–45 working days (after police verification)
- Tatkal application: 7–15 working days
- ECR-exempt category: Can be faster if police verification is not required
⚡ Tatkal tip: If you have urgent travel, Tatkal is worth the extra ₹2,000. However, your appointment date must be within 3 working days of application — so act fast once you decide.
